Canyonland National Park
Moab, Utah
Description
Added by Nancy Spitzer
Canyonland's has some of the most dynamic hikes that are covered with beautiful cairns. The eye has almost too much to behold and it takes a while to sink in that this is one of the nation's most spectacular spots.
We went on two different hikes and then drove around the entire park.

Camp along the White Rim Road in Canyonlands NP
Wow where to start… White Rim is one of those places where after the first day you will forget you are even on Earth anymore. The unreal views just don’t stop either. Every turn opens up to another amazing scene, massive canyon or beautiful vista. Make sure to take a dip in the Green River if you are here in the hotter months too as Summers are quite warm out here.
Make sure to do your ho...
Upheaval Dome Overlook
Upheaval Dome is a geologic structure whose origins have remained hotly debated for years. Some scientists say it is the site of a meteorite impact while others theorize it is nothing more than a naturally occurring salt dome. No matter what the true answer is, there is no question that this short scenic hike leads to one of the most iconic and beautiful places in all of Canyonlands.

Syncline Loop in Canyonlands NP
Be advised, the NPS signs and maps that warn of a very difficult hike ahead are not hyperbole, as I thought at first. This hike is a loop around the famous Upheaval Dome on an unmaintained trail that leads you down over 1500 feet into the canyon, close to the Green River, then climbs back up 1500 feet and out.
We did it in Summer, not knowing anything about it, and I would recommend going in ...
Climbing Moses in Canyonlands
Moses offers some fantastic crack climbing. It is in the Island in the Sky area near the Taylor Canyon Campsite. The climbing is difficult but the rock is a really solid wingate sandstone. With one of the best summits in the world, this tower isn't one to miss.To get more information on the routes and directions to the area check out mountainproject.com.
Canyoneering High Spur Canyon
From Moab, the drive to the canyon is approximately 4 hours long and much of it is on sandy or rocky dirt roads so it’s best to drive a 4x4 vehicle with good clearance. Drive past Hans Flat Ranger Station on the west side of Canyonlands National Park and make your way to the trailhead on Deadman’s Trail Road. This is the road you will take to hike back to your car after you exit the canyon. If ...
Catch a Sunset at Green River Overlook
Turn right on Highway 313 after Mesa Arch Trailhead and follow the road past Willow Flat Campground to Green River Overlook. Park at the parking lot. Climb over the railing onto the rock edge. Sit and breathe in that desert wind and distant sun. Simple as that.I recommend camping at Willow Flat to get the most out of Island in the Sky. Sites are available year-round, but they're first-come, fir...
