A perfect post-adventure route to relax and unwind in some of Idaho's natural hot springs.
Traveling through Idaho? Take HWY 12 and relax at some of these soul nourishing hot springs on your way.
My friend and I decided to serendipitously detour from the overrun I-90 on our journey from Portland to Bozeman last fall and it was my favorite part of the whole trip!
There are numerous hot springs to hike and camp at, including the famous Jerry Johnson.
Find the parking lot that is titled Warm Springs Trailhead. From the parking lot, cross the street and find the trailhead that starts with a beautiful footbridge over the Lochsa River.
Cross the river and hike the trail for about a mile until you reach the first of three watering sources. Continue the trail to find the next two. My favorite one is the third, as it was the most secluded and had the best view in my opinion.
Expect summertime trips to be packed with people, as this is the most popular natural hot spring in Idaho and is not far from the college town of Missoula.
Expect snow in the winter, but beautiful scenery and less people. We had our pool all to ourselves.
The pools are clothing optional, but families come here a lot, so be prepared for all different kinds of groups.
Stay hydrated, be sure to drink lots of water. Pack out what you pack in. Leave no trace. Enjoy.
