A really unknown hike to scenic views of water falls and the fairytale castle. One of the best and most amazing views of the Schloss Neuschwanstein, with the Alpsee (a lake) in the background.

Starting at the Castle of Neuschwanstein, you will hike up the Pöllartschlucht (it's a ravine with a creek) until the first big waterfall. You then go up a really steep mountainside fully overgrown with all kind of plants and trees.

Hiking up the Pöllartschlucht is easy as you can follow a broad path. After you reach the first big waterfall directly followed by a small man-made waterfall you have to cross the river and hike up the steep mountainside. We just hiked up and after some time found a way up. You just have to find a way through the forest and around some big stones. You need to be sure footed as it is really steep and there is no path. Respect the nature and do not damage plants or leave anything!

The 1st viewpoint is located at: 47°33′28.52″N 10°45′12.25″E. The 2nd viewpoint is about 50 meter north of the 1st one.

The best times of year for this hike are in early October, when the trees have amazing colors, or in winter - the slow is beautiful, but be careful, it's going to be really slippery!

Head to the road marked on the map below to park your car for free.

*The Pöllartschlucht is currently closed and it is not really clear when it will reopen (probably sometime 2018). It is extremely dangerous to go in the ravine if it is officially closed as the falling of rocks is quite likely. They had to remove a massive unstable rock. If you can climb however you can try to take a different route and climb up on the side of the ravine avoiding to enter the ravine at all.

Hike up Pöllartschlucht to the Best Views of Schloss Neuschwanstein Reviews

While the interior of this infamous castle is awe-inspiring, the landscape and exterior expanse is like no other. Hands down the best part of my visit to Germany, well besides the Colabiers.

Came here about ten years ago but still remember this hike as it was the second best thing we did on the trip, just behind climbing Mt Pilatus in Switzerland. Most of my group enjoyed touring the castle, but I far preferred hiking around it!

The most beautiful castle I’ve ever experienced. A bit of a hike up to the castle, there are two ways to get up. Via the easy hiking route or the intense scenic route. Great views, good eating restaurants and shops.
