Hiked up to camp and explore among the tarns the first weekend in September. The road up to the trailhead was full of potholes, but only encountered a couple that would bottom out anything less than an SUV. Arrived at the trailhead around 8am with a few cars (looked to be overnight) and a couple of day-hikers that were strolling in as we departed. Saw only a few hikers on our way out - one pair heading down from an overnight and one couple heading up to stay the night with just a couple other day-hikers. We took our time, enjoyed the views and made it up in about 3 hours. One note, there are a lot of notes on sites speaking about a split to the left to get to the tarns for camping. You'll know you've arrived when you can look down into the valley and see the tarns. At that point, make sure you take the trail leading into the basin. We spent a couple days up there exploring around the tarns and hitting up some of the trails to the top. The stay was highlighted by one of the most incredible star-gazing experiences I've ever seen. Overall, a great trip and I highly recommend. You'll have some company during the summer and on a busy weekend, but for a bit of isolation, you can head out towards the Mt. Shuksan direction (south side of the basin) and find a hidden little spot to camp which isn't visible from most of the other parts of the basin. It also provides a nice rock for eating, Shuksan or Baker viewing, star-gazing, and just hanging out on throughout your trip.

I spent a day here with some friends on a recent trip to HK. There's a bit of work to get to the Damn between the ride from HK to the taxi ride or hike to the dam. It's a great place for some drone photography if you have one at your disposal. I would highly recommend getting an early start to avoid the crowds. You'll also get better taxis in/out and be able to get better photos with less people visible.

My review is solely based on the sunset we experienced last August 2017 (pic uploaded). We made it to the park approx. an hour before sun down and just posted up to take in the beautiful sunset. It did not disappoint. We actually ended up here chasing some Orcas that were traveling up the coast. So, not only did we get to see the Orcas swimming by, but we got to experience a truly epic sunset. Whales, sail boats, and mountains. Oh my!

Hiked up to the lookout at the end of August and camped over-looking Hidden Lake for the night. First, the hike up was fun....about 3,000 ft elevation gain in 4.5 miles, but fun nonetheless. We went out early hoping to get to the lookout first. We hung out at the lookout for a couple of hours before making our way down towards the lake. We decided to set up camp on the ridge overlooking the lake and man am I glad we did! I woke up around 5:30am, peeked out of the tent and saw just a slight orange tint to the sky. Grabbed my camera and spent the next 2 hours taking some incredible pictures and video of the rising sun. My only regret is not staying longer. In hindsight, we should have prepared to stay up there for two nights and on the second day just explore around the lake and lookout. But this is definitely one of my favorite and most memorable hikes I've had.
