A great secluded series of two waterfalls with cold, fresh water and deep swimming pools right off the Shenandoah River.

Following the Shenandoah River south down Tilthammer Mill Road you will see the river on you left and woods/pasture to your right. Once you lose sight of the river keep an eye out to you left and you will eventually see a gap in the trees next to the road where the upper waterfall is. Park on the side of the road and hike down about 20 feet to the top of the falls. From here you can jump down to the base of the falls (if the water is high enough) or just hike down to the pool via the lower falls to the right.

The water here is phenomenal and is great in the summer as it always stays cold. Safety is key here as the water level fluctuates seasonally so explore at your own risk. To get to the lower falls start driving north down Tilthammer Mill Road back the way you came and about 200 yards down the road you will see a gap in the woods to your right; if you pass the house to your right you've gone to far. Park on the side of the road and hike down the trail until you see the Shenandoah River in front of you and Sprout Run running from your left into the river.

If you hike to the right you will see the lower falls of Sprout Run with a rope swing attached to a tree hanging over the swimming pool. These falls are a little smaller then the upper falls but the addition of a rope swing makes for great fun. This spot is great to stop at if you are kayaking or rafting down the river to Watermelon Park or Route 7.

Both of these falls are ideal in the summer but are beautiful in the fall as the leaves start to change, making for great photo opportunities. Once again, for the lower falls, the pools are about 6 feet deep, but explore at your own risk as the water level can fluctuate with the season.

Water felt great, and was so blue! My dog and I had a great time in the water, perfect on a hot day! Only reason it didn't get 5 stars is because there isn't too much hiking involved, unless you want to hike down the creek.

We've had a lot of rain lately so I'm not sure if that had anything to do with the amount of water (I'm sure it did) but it was perfect! The water was really cold which we were expecting. Lots of fun though, water was really pretty too, oddly blue. We just climbed right up! Never found a lower falls (assuming we were at the upper falls) so we didn't find a rope swing. Had an awesome time and super easy to get to!
