Catch A Sunset At Kiptopeke State Park
This beautiful State Park on the Virginia Eastern Shore provides visitors with a very secluded beach even in the dead of summer. The location of the beach also allows you to enjoy a sunset over water which is rare for the east coast. The sandy white beaches dotted with old crab buckets and crab traps is an amazing place for the entire family to enjoy the day or for that romantic stroll on the b...
Relax at Haven Beach
I discovered Mathews, VA while watching Beachfront Bargain Hunt on HGTV! It’s a quiet county close to the coast. One of the beaches close to Mathews is Haven Beach. It’s an uncrowded beach with parking and a bathroom (porto potty style).
There’s not much in Mathews, but there is a 7-Eleven that has delicious slushies!

Beach Day at Bethel Beach Natural Area Preserve
I discovered Mathews, VA while watching Beachfront Bargain Hunt on HGTV! It’s a quiet county close to the coast. There is another beach in Mathews county, but this one is my favorite! It is a beautiful beach and it’s always been quiet the times I have been.

Kayak Camp at Janes Island State Park
Everyone goes to the Eastern Shore. Few people get to experience the Bay like this.
The journey out to the Long Point backcountry site is a bit arduous, especially if you haven't studied the tide charts (guilty). The last mile or so requires a paddle through rough, open waters. Crab and cruising boats are plenty. In short: be prepared and be careful!
The island itself is nearly impassable by f...
Climb to the Top of the Cape Henry Lighthouse
Visit not one, but two of the most historic and important lighthouses to our great nation. The original Cape Henry Lighthouse was the U.S. Governments first construction project authorized under the constitution. President George Washington himself authorized the project and Alexander Hamilton oversaw the construction. The first of the two lighthouses was built in 1792 in order to guide ships ...
