Around 110 miles outside of Salt Lake City, the Bonneville Salt Flats Rest Stop sits at the edge of the mesmerizing salt flats. Although this adventure requires an incredibly early wake-up, it is definitely worth the lost sleep.

The night before, make sure to check online the exact time of sunrise, and plan to leave accordingly. Also, be aware that during cooler months (November-May), the flats are flooded, so it is better to go during the summer and early fall. Driving out gives you not only the majestic, one-of-a-kind sunrise, but also the opportunity to be a part of the magic that is dawn.

Park at the rest stop and run out into the middle of the salt flats, ready to see the bright light break the horizon. It's absolutely breathtaking, to say the least.
