I'm a retired Yukon-Alaska tour driver/guide who continues to travel extensively as a writer and photographer. My wife and I travel mostly by RV and cruise ship, while I'm an avid solo wilderness hiker.

If you have a vehicle that can make it up the rough road to the trailhead, this short, steep trail offers one of the most unique views in the Yukon from the mouth of the cave. If you have to walk up the road I would rate it lower.

Spending a day driving your own team of dogs across a frozen lake in the silent Yukon wilderness is an experience you will never forget!

Close to Whitehorse, the many trails at Wolf Creek Campground offer a scenic and educational outing in any season.

As well as being an excellent destination for its fascinating history and spectacular scenery, this can also be the gateway to a vast above-treeline hiking/biking area.

Although perhaps not as unique as the former ice road to Tuktoyaktuk was, driving the all-weather ITH in the winter can be quite an adventure.

If you luck into good weather, a flight into the park to see the mountain is a superb way to see how vast the Alaska wilderness is, and to witness the power of Denali herself.

It's a relatively easy trail, only 1.2 miles long return, but takes you into a spectacular canyon.

This winter road (ice road) was replaced by a gravel year-round road. Highway 10, more commonly known as the Inuvik-Tuktoyaktuk Highway or ITH, the first all-weather road to Canada's Arctic Coast, was officially opened to the public on November 15, 2017.

The Chilkoot Trail is famous around the world for good reasons. To be able to see and touch history with your eyes, your feet and your hands is an experience not found in many places anymore. I've hiked it twice - once solo while miles of it around the pass were still deep in snow, and once with my son (this is a superb family bonding experience). Allow time to explore the Bennett ghost town at the end - it's a wonderful place to camp overnight before taking the train back to Skagway and perhaps shuttle back to the trailhead to get your vehicle.
