Great easy 14er. A good one if you are just starting out but be ready for some wind action. Summit was beautiful, calm, wide and with great views but it was windy af getting to the summit so make sure you bundle up. We started at 6am and were back at the parking lot by 10:30 with plenty of stops for pictures and chilling at the summit. Hiking poles came in handy on the way down. The last .2 miles to the TH was a lil bumpy and might be better to do it in a 4wd but we saw all kinds of cars up there.

This trail is such a Fort Collins gem! I have hiked this at least 5 times. It’s short, sweet, and offers incredible views at the summit. The first part is a gradual incline through shady forest and open meadows (wildflowers are in best bloom in spring) The last stretch is a bit of a rock scramble, but I love it and its super fun. The views from the top are beautiful, panoramic shots of Horsetooth Reservoir, & Fort Collins. Great reward for little effort.

Did this in late spring & late summer. This trail is my all time favorite in Fort Collins, Colorado. The hike to Horsetooth Falls is quick, scenic, and beginner-friendly, though the waterfall is just a trickle in the summer (spring is better for that). Continued up to Horsetooth Rock, steeper and more challenging but totally worth it for the panoramic views at the top. Trail was a bit hot and exposed so start early and bring plenty of water. Saw a rattlesnake off-trail, so stay alert during summer months.

[January 2024] All that fresh snow made this hike such a pretty one today. It was like a winter wonderland. Horsetooth falls were completely frozen. Snow was super soft today so didn’t need the micro spikes but better to carry them and be prepared. If you are planning this hike right after fresh snowfall, it is very very cold, please bundle up nicely, and keep hydrating. We did this as a sunset hike and it was just spectacular. We reached the trailhead just 20 minutes after sunset and the temps dropped drastically in that time. We may be crossed 2 couples and one guy with the dog in the whole time we hiked. Overall such an amazing day.

Greyrock is such a fun challenge! The trail has a little bit of everything, forest, open meadows, and my favorite scrambling near the top. The views from the summit are so worth it, especially if you catch it on a clear day. I love this as a prep hike for a 14er. It’s definitely a workout, but not too intense if you pace yourself. Be ready for a bit of route-finding near the top. I loved how peaceful it felt on a weekday.

This is such a peaceful little gem in Northern Colorado and honestly the perfect spring hike. The trail is super chill with open meadows, creek crossings, and wildflowers starting to pop this time of year. It’s easygoing, great for all levels, and super dog-friendly too. You’ll cross the stream a bunch of times, so definitely wear shoes you don’t mind getting wet. I loved how quiet and calm it felt, even on the weekend. No summit stress, just fresh air, & pretty views

01/12/25 It was the perfect day for this hike—not the most extreme temperatures, no wind, crystal-clear views & sunny skies all along the trail. It was still pretty cold. The path was well-packed, and we didn’t need our micro-spikes or snowshoes until the very end. We only encountered six other hikers, and we had the Ouzel Falls entirely to ourselves—absolutely stunning and the best way to spend our Sunday. Parking at winter TH does add an extra 2 miles RT to the hike but doesn’t feel too much. We completed our hike in a total of 3.5 hours. Hung out at the falls for more than 30 minutes in that time too.

11/24/24 - Mayflower Gulch is a fantastic winter hike with incredible views. The trail is about 6 miles round trip, mostly on a wide, packed path, making it accessible for snowshoes or microspikes. The whole way for us was stunning, especially as you approach the old mining cabins with the beautiful peaks in the background. It’s a gradual climb, and you will see a lot of skiers on the path. We only hiked till the cabins since going further up required snowshoes and we didnt carry it with us that day. Arrive early, as the parking lot can fill up quickly. The area gets windy and cold, so dress in warm layers. Overall, it’s a must-do winter hike with breathtaking mountain views!

Completed on 11/24. This is a short, but super rewarding hike with stunning winter views :) The trail has steep & icy sections so microspikes and poles are highly recommended. Snowshoes would also help at the steep incline to the top of the glacier and if you want to go further up to explore. The frozen lake and glacier are breathtaking, but it can get very windy and cold and weather can be unpredictable so layer up properly. We carried a hot thermos of hot chocolate with us and that was the best decision ever :) You have to pay for parking, street parking is not permitted. You can park closer to the TH for $20 or the parking lot just a lil further down for $10. A great winter adventure if you’re ready for the conditions. We had an amazing time :)

Definitely go counter clockwise and hit Island Lake first. The uphill is gradual and once you reach Island lake, it is mostly all downhill from there and the hike doesn’t feel too hard that way. There is a really small patch of a traverse crossing when heading to Ice lake from Island but nothing a good pair of shoes and poles cant handle :) lower route is more gravel and upper one more rocky. I went the rocky route while my husband did the lower one. We did it Mid July of 2024 on a Sunday so it wasn’t too crowded. We reached the TH at 6:40 am and there were a couple spots left but they filled up really fast. The restrooms were nasty, they were full with no TP. It was the same in the morning and nothing changed when we were back from our hike It was a gorgeous hike throughout, felt like we were in a valley of wildflowers the whole time So many water crossings, & waterfalls along the way. We were in awe the whole time. Our fav hike so far in Colorado. It is so worth all the effort. Enjoy :)
