We did this short out and back hike with our twin four year olds. We parked on Searsburg Road and walked the trail North to the lake. The first third or so is through a field (we saw some wildflowers) before reaching a gate which leads to the rest of the hike through the woods. The wooded area offered tons of shade. It was a bit muddy at parts, it has just rained the previous day. Some parts of the trail have wooden planks to walk on. The pond itself was beatiful, theres a few spots to view it from.

The walk to Thundering Brook Falls is short and fun. There is a small parking lot right by the trailhead on the road. It was full when we arrived, but we were able to park on the side of the road without issue. The path to the base of the falls is a boardwalk through a meadow-like area. Depending on your speed, it should only take about 5-10 minutes to reach a viewing platform near the base of the falls. To catch a glimpse of the top of the falls, you may hike off the path up an incline over some tree roots and rocks.
