Arrive in Sorong, ferry to Waisai on Waigeo Island

On arrival at the Sorong International Airport you will be met and transferred the short distance to the port to board the fast ferry to Waisai. On arrival in Waisai, you will be met and transferred to the liveaboard trimaran. The vessel has a shallow draft advantage over all other liveaboards and as such can glide through the jungle lined passage between the islands of Gam and Waigeo, taking us to places few see whilst avoiding most back tracking on the week's 270km trip. Lunch will be served on board while heading to a beach in Kabui Bay for a refreshing swim. There are several spectacular beaches along the dense jungle coast of Kabui Bay so we start with some definite wow factor. Kabui Bay’s is dotted with stunning limestone karst islands soaring up from of the water and a jetty in the middle of this sculptured seascape makes for an interesting first overnight stopover.

Gam, Waigeo and Mutus Islands

Today we venture down a river-like narrow passage between Gam and Waigeo Islands. Don a mask and snorkel to glide with the current down an amazing stretch of the passage along which all manner of colourful coral vie for attention, all peacefully set under the overhanging jungle branches in only three metres of crystal clear water. It’s a truly rare and extraordinary experience. Continuing on, after around 18 nautical miles we are greeted by a couple of picture perfect islands, providing us a choice for our first village jetty stop over at Mutus. As we pull in you will witness the school of bait fish part under the jetty and the local kids show off their best back flips. Wind direction dictates the choice of stopover here.

Wayag Islands

The jewel in the crown of Raja Ampat is the cluster of small islands set in a lagoon known as Wayag. The jungle covered limestone islets rise from the pristine turquoise waters creating a magical tropical island paradise. At 37nm, this is a relatively long run and so we set sail early. Once there, the magnificence and beauty of Wayag is truly a sight to behold. We pull up on to our own circular sand spit beach and set up dining tables ashore for a two night stay. Later, we simply step from the stern of the trimaran to a beach dinner party under the palm trees and stars. From our private Wayag beach deep inside the Wayag lagoon, we mount mini expeditions by tender. The lagoon's inner azure passages boast fantastic snorkeling and just off the ranger’s station, you can often wade amongst the baby reef sharks. Some of the karst pinnacles can be climbed and those who choose to do so are rewarded with spectacular panoramas across the lagoon and beyond. Whilst we enjoy nature's wonder, we also aim to give a little back by encouraging everyone to actively help collect any plastics we find. Rather than lamenting the 'plastic oceans’, instead let's do something about it. We invite you all to participate.

Pianemo Islands

After our stay in Wayag, it’s off to its little cousin, the Pianemo Islands. Whilst most dive boats moor outside the lagoon, our shallow draft allows us to pass through the low water between the cliff walls to tie up between two karst islets where we are often the only boat. From here we have easy access to the stairs to the lookout point from which the views are stunning as once again, we are surrounded by spectacular limestone sculptures and turquoise blue waters. We moor here for this evening.

Arborek and Friwen Island village

Today we set sail through the Dampier Straights to Arborek then on to the island village of Friwen. En route we pass several manta cleaning stations, specific locations where manta rays congregate to have their skin, gills and teeth cleaned by parasitic copepods and a variety of small cleaner wrasse species. Mantas spend many hours every day being groomed and even wait in line for their turn. Due to this remarkable natural activity, this area is one of the most frequented sites for divers and snorkelers. Our final destination and mooring for the the evening is the island of Friwen. This small island is inhabited and has a village of rustic stilted houses, beautiful palm lined beaches along its northern shore and near the western end is a spot with a huge overhanging tree with rope swing and a couple of stalls selling drinks and snacks. A perfect place to relax, enjoy a drink and watch the tropical sunset. This evening we will enjoy a fantastic farewell dinner party on the village jetty.

Morning tender exploration, return to Sorong, end of services

On our final morning we enjoy a good breakfast as always before heading out on the tenders to explore the surrounds. As throughout Raja Ampat, Friwen Island boasts some spectacular coral gardens or you can choose to take the optional dawn shimmy of the Birds of Paradise tour (additional cost) on the mainland. After lunch we return to where we started our week, at Waisai to board the 14:00 ferry to Sorong, arriving at 17:00 we are met with a transfer to the airport for your outbound flight. Trip concludes
