Basking In Utah's Backcountry

This brief teaser on rafting in Southern Utah's redrock canyons, sponsored by O.A.R.S., is nicely pairedwith an old-timey reading of Edward Abbey, American writer and environmentalist. It's hard not to be inspired by Abbey's descriptive prose, which urges us to go out and enjoynature, and is paired with shots of epic canyon lookouts, rushing whitewater, and glowing,sun-warmed rocks. Often, the video positions us at the backs of OARS travelers, promptingus to imagine ourselves in their place.

The video's meditative pace is preserved by the decision to abridge Abbey's popular quote, which goes on to become a bit more spirited in tone. Abbey continues:

I promise you this one sweet victory over our enemies, over those desk-bound men andwomen with their hearts in a safe deposit box, and their eyes hypnotized by desk calculators.I promise you this; You will outlive the bastards.

Recently we escaped for a weekend to a little camp spot up in the Catskill Mountains. Little did we know, a storm was rolling in so the night was spent bundled up listening to rain on the tent roof.
