Distance: 6.5 milesTotal elevation gain: 1436 ftSingle track, fire road, hills

This is perhaps the perfect introduction to trail running for road athletes. Close to the City, modestly challenging but not too steep and with stunning views the entire way, this route never grows old even for the most experienced runners.

From the City exit 101 at the Alexander Ave exit just after the GGB and turn left then right to head up into the headlands on Conzelman Rd. Drive 1.2 miles and park at the gravel lot at the round-about intersection of Conzelmon and McCullough.

The run begins by following the Coastal Trail across McCullough Rd and up the fire road to the top of Slackers Hill. Take a minute to soak in the views before diving down a rugged rocky singletrack, following the Coastal Trail. Stay left at mile .5 to follow the rugged SCA Trail as it traverses the ridgeline. When the SCA Trail meets the paved road, cross the tarmac and follow the Alta Trail northeast for .5 miles until it intersects with the Bobcat Trail. Turn left on Bobcat, racing down the meadowed hillside. Look out for coyote and red-tailed hawks! The trail flattens out on the valley floor where it becomes the Rodeo Valley Trail. Turn left at mile 4.5, immediately passing through the parking lot and cross Bunker Hill Road. Stay on the broad fire road (called the now-familiar Coast Trail). Dig in to crush the final 1 mile and 700 vertical feet on this fire road. The climb ends right at the parking lot where you began. Source
