This 1.9 mile family fun adventure is packed full of history, old growth forests and views of the beautiful Bushkill Creek.
Only a short drive from the major Pennsylvania cities of Allentown, Bethlehem, and Easton lies Jacobsburg State Park and environmental center. The main feature of the park is most certainly the Henry's Woods loop. Although just under two miles, this trail encompasses a variety of terrain and old growth forests.
The trail begins at the environmental center parking lot. The western side of the loop starts to the right and climbs to the top of the ravine for views of the Bushkill Creek. At the end of this side of the loop stands the Henry homestead and long rifle museum. The famous Henry Rifle was once made here. The Jacobsburg National Historic Site lies within the park. Lots of history lies here. The eastern side of the loop starts out of the parking lot to the left with a bridge over the creek. A short distance later you come to the main old growth forest. Its is the only old growth virgin forest remaining in the Lehigh Valley. Make sure to explore the different side trails on both sides of the loop.
Park trail maps are located at the parking lot kiosks and the environmental center. Most of the park encourages mountain biking and horseback riding, however they are not allowed here. Running, fishing, and dog walking are also popular activities here, but make sure to leash your four legged friend if you bring him out on your adventure.
