A gorgeous route with many scenic mountain and forest vistas, beautiful wildlife, and interesting history.
We started our canoe trip just north of Warren, Pennsylvania, next to the Kinzua Dam. We canoed along the river for about 8 miles and then stopped in the town of Warren and had a picnic along the riverside. We then canoed another 5 miles and stayed the night at the Buckaloons Campground. The first section was very scenic and forested, and the second was industrial with many houses and factories by the shore. I would suggest you know a bit about the river, because there are a few areas with obstacles like shallow water/rapids, underground waterfalls and such, before you set off. However, it is a fun day trip, camping optional, and it is okay for most skill levels as long as there is someone somewhat experienced in the canoe also.
