The Wyckoff Street Mosaic, located on a brownstone in Boerum Hill, Brooklyn, is a unique piece of neighborhood art created by Susan Gardner. Since 2001, Gardner has been decorating the facade of her three-story home with an eclectic mix of materials, from shells and buttons to broken cups and CDs. Originally started as a personal project to make a "celebratory statement," the mosaic has since become a local landmark, with neighbors contributing materials and supporting its growth. Over time, the mosaic has expanded to cover much of the house’s front, including the fence.
From a distance, the mosaic appears as a vibrant blend of colors, but up close, intricate patterns and faces emerge, showcasing Gardner’s artistic detail. Visitors can view the mosaic at any time, and those lucky enough may even meet Gardner, who is a teacher at Yeshiva University and is often happy to discuss her work. The mosaic is located near the Bergen Street Subway Station, making it easily accessible for those exploring the neighborhood.
