Great work out and way to enjoy the beauty of this historic conservation areaAdventurous and Interactive activity to do with your family and friendsBeautiful view of the desert once you hike to the top*This "moderate" 2.5 mile hike is perfect for anyone who wants a fairly quick, short hike at Red Rock with a nice view at the end.If Camping make sure you have a reservation or Backcountry Paperless Permit
Calico Tanks is located along the Scenic Loop Road in Red Rock Canyon National Park, which is about a 45 minute drive west of Las Vegas. There is a small, fairly priced entrance fee at the gate and Calico Tanks is about 3 miles down the road. The trail itself is 2.5 miles long and takes about 2 hours. It's considered a moderate level trail, but is not difficult or strenuous. Its an uphill hike that leads to a summit overlooking Las Vegas, the view is beautiful, and perfect for a romantic date. Since it is an uphill hike, the hike there is longer than the hike back, so its satisfying to know after seeing the view its a shorter(and easier) hike back to the car.
I would highly recommend bringing sunscreen, hats and lots of water, especially on a sunny day.
I hiked Calico Tanks with my girlfriend and her family and had a great time exploring and experiencing the wild. This hike is doable for a beginner, or for a group of friends who want an easy yet adventerous hike.
