"Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better." - Albert Einstein

I love coming here in the Fall when its not too hot. I climb and explore in the canyon, and then I usually follow the short trail to the river to cool off and camp for the night.

This trail isn't the most scenic or exciting, but if you want to just "get away from it all" and go for a hike, you should definitely check this one out.

Got lost on the way there and had to call one of the local outfitters for directions, but other than that, it was a piece of cake to get to. I took Cotton Landing to the springs and freedived all day! The only bummer is the number of people there. There were easily over 50 people there. So if you are hoping to relax and aren't able to ignore large crowds, then Cypress Springs is not for you.

I chose to start at the trailhead on Hwy 49, hike to Airey Lake, and come back (11.5 miles). The lake was nice, but I can't say the same for the trail itself. There are some sights to be seen, but I would say about 90% of the trail is boring and really drags on. Each hour hiking felt like a chore rather than fun. I would find other local trails instead.

There was some really nice boulder problems here as well as top rope, lead, and trad routes of various difficulties. I'm just now getting good enough to transition from top roping to lead climbing, and I will definitely be practicing here.

Other than the fact that I was severely underprepared for the cold the weekend that I went, I had a blast! The climbing and caving here are some of the best in Alabama.

Little River Falls is not only a great photo, its also the best way to enter the river if you are planning on kayaking here. There are some crazy class V and VI rapids right after the falls, but there are also some calmer sections of the river with really pretty blue water.

If you go to Clark Creek Nature Area, be prepared for two things: 1. You will get wet! 2. Your legs will feel like jello after hiking up hills for a few hours. Its a bummer that you can't camp here, but it is a great place to spend the day.

Thanks for letting me know about such a cool place! I love to climb the canyon walls and look for purple clay (really pretty) before following the trail down to Pearl River.
