Hike Kalepa Ridge

1.6 Miles Total - 580 ft gain - Out-and-Back Trail

Hike above the Kalalua Valley on this unofficial and unmarked trail.

Kalepa Ridge is a narrow, unofficial trail that starts at the Kalalau Lookout in Koke'e State Park.

To get to the trailhead, drive to the popular Kalalau Valley Lookout near the end of highway 550 in Koke'e State Park. Look toward the left (ocean side) of the parking lot where you'll see the unmarked start of the trail near a break in the fence.

The trail starts through the brush with a steep decline, so it's a good idea to have hiking poles and a good pair of shoes or boots. Eventually, you'll follow the ridge line with incredible views of the Kalalau Valley to your right.

Kalepa Ridge is unmaintained, steep, and can be dangerous, especially when wet. Turn back if conditions are not right or if it is beyond your hiking ability.

The shortest of all the ridge hikes

If you are short on time it's the best way to spend it in the area. Like some of the other ridge hikes (Honopu, Nu'alolo, Awa'awapuhi) but shorter and less publicized so more secluded.

A Taste Of The Na Pali Coast Minus The 22 Miles.

As an avid hiker from Oahu I can say this may be one of the most rewarding views for a short 2 mile hike. Fortunately, we came down the rocky edges on a dryer day with sturdy hiking boots on so it was nothing too challenging! This hike may be my new favorite. We only saw four others along the whole hike and the views were amazing all the way down; the end of the cliff was perfect for a snack, a breeze and some photos. :) highly recommend!
