Always up for an adventure!

If you are in Fort Davis, this is a must! The drive up is beautiful on its own, but the facility is really interesting.

We checked out Balmorhea after a day of hiking. The cool water was exactly what we needed! We saw lots of small fish, catfish, and even a couple of turtles. Very cool experience.

This is a pretty steep hike, but the beauty of the path make it worth it. The trail is clearly marked, and the views throughout the whole hike are gorgeous. We saw a family of big horn sheep on the next mountain over and evidence of other wildlife. Take lots of water, wear the right shoes, bring a walking stick if you have one, and go! Very worth it!

This is an easy trail suitable for anyone. It is paved and takes you through a good section of the park. You see prairies, wooded areas, and ponds. Fair amount of foot and bike traffic, but definitely wide enough to accommodate all.

This is a pretty little hike through the woods. The bird blind is nice and gives you a chance to sit and relax for a bit. Easy enough for the whole family.

This trail lives up to its name! I saw three deer before I even got out of my truck at the trailhead. The scenic loop that branches off is worth checking out too. It gives you some beautiful views of the lake. This trail is easy and short enough for the whole family.

This is a pretty easy hike mostly in the woods. The path is wide and well marked. Would be great for families and dogs. There are some pretty views of the lake and river as you go. Definitely worth checking out!

The first part of the trail is in the woods, but you will eventually come out on the spillway and get all the views. The trail could be marked better, but just keep going and you will come out somewhere! It gets crossed up with the Spillway Trail at times but we have always found our way back.

It’s not easy, but there are lots of spots to stop and take in the amazing views on the way up. Full disclosure, I was very hungover from a wild night drinking all the wine in Fredericksburg, but I still made it with several rest stops and water breaks. Once you hit the top, it’s all worth it. Start early because it gets HOT on that pink granite. Definitely a must do if you find yourself nearby!

The first part of the hike is fairly steep, but not difficult. Once you get to the top, the views make it worth it. Make sure you don’t lose the trail at the bench. Go back up to the trail and continue left. This will make sense when you are there lol

We hiked the Limestone Ledge and Overlook Trail. There is some elevation change and rocky areas, but my 11 year old did fine with it. Definitely don’t skip the overlook. It’s a gorgeous view of the Paluxy River.

This is a beautiful trail that really is as long as you want it to be! There are plenty of access points, so just figure out how long you want to be out there and make it happen! Oh, and also....AX ‘EM!

Nice, easy hike around the lake. There are many beautiful views and fishing spots along the route. About half the trail is shaded, so nice for a sunny day!

This is an easy loop that takes you by many interesting spots. There are several signs that tell the story of the CCC construction of the park. Definitely easy enough for kids.

Beautiful walk in the woods.

Just like all the other trails at Purtis Creek, this is any easy, well marked path. It’s mostly shaded, so even on a hot day, it’s bearable. We saw rabbits, deer, and heard wild pigs. Only about 1.5 miles, so a good one for older kids.

This is a very pretty trail with beautiful lake views and a bird blind on the water. Easy enough for kids.

These trails are perfect for a leisurely nature stroll. There are a few inclines, but nothing kids couldn’t handle. Foliage is labeled throughout the trail as well. We even came across a deer and her fawn! All trails connect, but if you want a shorter route, the maps at headquarters tell you exactly where to get on and where you can park. Even though it was super hot, we weren’t miserable due to the shade. We will definitely be visiting again in the fall!

This was easy to find and absolutely beautiful. The sheriff stopped to see what we were up to, but let us be once he saw we weren’t teenagers trying to make out haha. Amazing view away from the city lights. Bring bug spray!
