This 8 km out and back hike is a steep one, but the end result is SO worth it. After a good steady burn in the legs for 1.5 hours, you will be rewarded with a complete 360 degree panoramic view of the Canadian Rockies!

To get to this hike, you take Highway 16, to Miette Road (which only opens early May), which in itself is an adventure! It's a pretty winding road, but nothing new in the mountains. The area suddenly feels a little like a tourist attraction, but I assure you, that feeling fades when the burn begins. The trail starts right next to the Hot Springs, so it's best to park closer to that end of the lot.

This hike is probably most comfortable with two people, but we did see a couple of groups spanning from 3-7 people. There was even a little guy who looked about 5 years old! He got a little freaked out when he saw the little bit of snow, so I don't believe they got to continue on too much further, but the kid made it pretty far up!

The trail begins its incline (that will not even out for the remainder of the trail) with a paved path. Take the trail to the right, as the water tank will be on your left. When the trail divides, stick to the right following the "Sulphur Skyline/Ridge." The trail itself is pretty straight forward from here on out. Its a steep incline, buried in the trees for the majority of the hike. At most switchbacks, there are little rest spots which I would recommend stopping for some water. If it's a hot day, like it was for us, you will be covered most of the way up, but not completely. Be sure to check out the view around you as you go! It's a good reminder that it will only get better! Some snow/mud was present closer to the top, but it was early May when we went.

The last part of the hike is loose rock at the steep slope of the Sulphur Skyline Summit. It gets pretty windy up here, so definitely be prepared for that. I put on a flannel, just to keep me from getting chilly! Also, I needed to take a quick break before taking on this last portion! Once you make it to the top, you will be blown away. Quite literally if it's a windy day, but the view is absolutely breath taking! It makes the hike SO rewarding. I may have questioned whether completion was in my scopes, (as an amateur hiker, wearing a pair of Nikes) but I am so glad I persevered!

The hike down, was no trouble at all. Just move your legs, and let gravity do the rest! Enjoy the gradual loss of the view through gaps in the trees canopy, before it's gone!

The trail seemed to be filled with only friendly faces, always smiling and telling us to "enjoy it up there!" as they made their way back down. I wouldn't classify this as a busy trail, but there were a fair number of other hikers.

Add this to your list of hikes if you love a good view!!
