Tower of Babel

From the parking lot at Moraine Lake, head left following the trail towards the rock pile. As you get closer to the rock pile, head left yet again on the trail towards consolation lakes. Once you go through the little rock garden, most people head up towards to the Tower of Babel. I DO NOT recommend this. Instead, follow the trail into the forest a little ways, and keep your eyes out for tiny side trails cutting through the forest towards the tower about five minutes into the forest. Take any of these small trails, and head directly up. Doing this will instead allow you to scramble through big boulders and small rocks, instead of starting your hike right off with a scree slog. Once you have gone over all the rock and entered the gully, stay RIGHT. I have seen many trail guides that say to stay to the left. I have done this scramble at least 5 times and going to the right is definitely easier. Doing this you can scramble up the rock along the side, and there are many good places for your hands and feet that are solid. As the gully narrows, you are forced into the middle of the gully for a great scramble. Head straight up until you are out of the gully. Once out of the gully, enjoy some beautiful views of Consolation Lakes are surrounding peaks. After this, head left up to the summit of the tower. The route here is pretty straightforward. Once at the top, you have an amazing view of Moraine Lake, Eiffel Peak, the Ten Peaks, and of course Mt. Temple. SIt back and relax on the rock furniture! Head back down the same way you came up. Rountrip time 2 hours. (way longer depending how long you hang out up top).
