Hike To Zim Zim Falls
This 8 mile (out and back) hike begins at the trail head off of Knoxville Road, just before mile marker 24. The first 3 miles are relatively flat, though you will cross the creek about 9 times. Right before you reach the waterfall, you will come to a fork in the trail marked by a pink boulder. Stay left to view the falls from below or go right for a short incline hike to see the falls from afar.
Hike the Lake Hennessey Loop
The "lollipop" hike starts at the "Ranch House" parking lot off of Chiles Pope Valley Road - alternatively, you can access from Conn Valley Road for a shortened 5.6-mile loop. You turn off Chiles Pope Valley Road onto Moore Creek Trail, drive past a private house (you can see it on the map) and then park in the parking lot just down the hill. When starting by the ranch house you'll cross the cr...
Hike Pierce Canyon
This hike follows a fire road through some farms, up into the woods and up the ridge. It's an accessible and easy trail, with some decent incline starting about halfway through (thus the "moderate" rating instead of easy).
Park at the end of the road before the gate. (There is a sign that says to park in front of the sign to not block traffic -- please adhere to this!). The gate used to ha...
Fly Fishing on the Putah
Putah Creek is a little over an hour drive from SF without traffic. The creek has flows beginning in April, which can reach up to 700cfs during the summer months. The creek begins to drop after September. Keep in mind that wet-wading isn't recommended until the river is under 300cfs. Most fly fisherman on this creek nymph with 5-7x (very light tippets), an indicator, and a 3 or 4 weight rod. Ba...
Hike the Homestead-Blue Ridge Loop
From the official trailhead, start off by taking the Homestead Trail, which forks towards the right. A trail connecting Homestead and Blue Ridge will take you to a creek nearby. Veer off the trail along the creek and there is a water hole for cooling off on hot days. Onward into the trail, you will start to walk through dense forest that offers a lot of shade. Blue Ridge is reached at a trail j...
Homestead & Blue Ridge Loop
At the bend in the road on Highway 128, you will pass two silver gates. The gate with the UC Davis logo is the entrance to the trailhead. Past the entrance there is a large dirt pullout off the road with plenty of parking.
Starting at the trailhead, go left in the fork to start the loop trail. The first mile is fairly easy and brings you to the Old Homestead. After this, the hike becomes a lot...
