No cabin fever on this hike! Set out to explore the U-Bar trail as you visit the historic remains of Dane Springs Cabin!
The U-bar trail courses a 6.5 mile stretch between Pinchot and Dane Springs Cabin, but continues deeper to join up with the Barbershop Trail - all part of the cabin loop system.
From Pinchot Trailhead, start hiking along the Fred Haught #141 trail, it is an old road that meanders southbound. This will terminate at the historic Pinchot Cabin where you will be able to pick up the U-Bar Trail. As you continue down this path, you will note a stock tank and will reach a "T" at approximately 1.3 miles. At 2 miles, the U-Bar Trail will leave the road and you begin to embark through the tall ponderosa pine.
You will eventually cross forest road 139 at the 2.5 mile mark. After crossing forest road 145, you will cross McClintock Draw and eventually arrive into Dane Canyon. As you ascend the trail will finally introduce you to the historic ruins of Dane Springs Cabin at mile 6. The decaying log structure is surrounded by beautiful Douglas Fir as you hear the fresh spring trickling from an old pipe.
