Fantastic short hike to a beautiful view!
Starting at 7,559ft, a 2.2mile(if you don't deviate from the trail!) hike will take you up 630 to the summit of Big Baldy which lies at 8,209ft. There are many gorgeous views and random side trips along the way. A few times, my group stopped to climb some of the bigger boulders along the way. We even found a short trail in the snow that we just HAD to slide down! Lots of snow along the route made it easy to stay on the trail as there were a lot of footprints however, at times the trail was blocked and we had to go around. Not a big deal. We like deviating a little bit. Once at the top, the fog cleared for a bit. Just long enough for us to take pictures and soak in the beauty. It was less than favorable weather, but we were just happy to have made it to the top. Cracked a Coors Light up there too. I can't wait to do climb Big Baldy again, only next time I hope I'll be doing it from the crags. Found a walking stick on the way down and carved my initials and the year into it. Posted a picture of it on the IG. Was sad to leave such a beautiful area, but I'll be back. You can count on it.
