This 50 mile stretch of paved bike paths carves through the scenic northwoods of Vilas County.

The Boulder Junction Area Trail System offers bike enthusiasts of all ages the opportunity to pump their legs.   Head into Boulder Junction on Cty Rd M, which merges with K as you enter town.   Find breakfast at Granary or the Coffee Co, then park at the Community Recreational Area to pick up the trail.   This Rec area has ample parking, skate park, tennis, pickleball and basketball courts, a playground, pavilion and beautiful murals to test your kids’ animal knowledge.

If you head southbound you will coast through the shade of the forest and along the vast Trout Lake, where you might spot a brave skipper cruising a daysailer.   This trail then crosses at N to head east through the Crystal Lake campgrounds.   Continue on an extra four miles to be rewarded with ice cream in Sayner.   This out and back is about a thirty mile round trip and offers some steep and rolling hills, and even one hairpin that left some battle scars on one companion.

Alternatively, you can follow K west toward Mercer, which offers relatively flat terrain.

Overall, the paved bike trail routes can be tailored to your group’s distance and skill level or head tip to tail and cover from Mercer to St. Germain for a half century ride.
