Description

Added by Rose Freeman

Hike up to Heybrook Lookout through a mossy forest to a lookout towering high above the trees to see Mount Index and other peaks in the Central Cascades!

To the trailhead, drive east on highway 2 from Everett. Just past milepost 37 you will see a gravel parking area on the left side of the highway.

Wander through a mossy forest that reminds me of Olympic National Park and traverse up 1.3 miles of switch backs to ascend heybrook lookout! Dogs are allowed on leash.

When we hiked here, the sun peaked through the fog to give us spectacular views of Mount Index. From the lookout, bring binoculars to also see Bridal Veil Falls tucked into the hillside!

Heybrook Lookout Reviews

It is an enchanting little walk in the winter (went in late December), just remember to bring those microspikes/crampons and marvel at how the forest transforms under feet of snow.

A short hike but don't be deceived, almost everyone I passed was taking a break because it's basically all uphill! However, the end is worth it. The lookout is awesome and I can't wait to go back for sunrise/sunset.

We got turned around a bit and happened on our destination quite accidentally. Lush green mosses and ferns abound. Beautiful colors and a looming haze added to the slightly mystical intrigue on our way up. The hike is not too long and before you know it your under the overlook tower. Plenty of room to hang out and picnic for a while. I'll be back in the summer in hopes that the fog will be gone and will not obstruct the view from the top.
