Pilchuck Snow Hike
Added by Chloe Donlan
Distance: 5.4 miles roundtripElevation gain: 2,300 ftBeautiful snowy-nature wonderland
Mount Pilchuck is a relatively intermediate hike that results in magnificent 360-degree views of Mount Baker, Mount Rainier and the Olympics. There is an old fire lookout at the summit (5,300 ft).
The drive up to the parking lot is slow, as snow and ice cover the gravel road in winter. Make sure your car is completely filled with gas.
A trail in the snow is carved out by other hikers. On the trail, the snow is never more than ankle deep, while to either side, the snow is easily waist deep. You can do this hike in snowshoes or hiking boots with poles. Several streams will likely have iced over, so watch where you step! The ice is THIN and you don't want wet feet!
Remember to leave enough time for navigating snow and ice in order to get back to your car before sundown. The sunset from the parking lot is beautiful, as well.

Did this in March. What a blast. Lots of fun glissading on the way down.
