• Hike up and along an island ridge then back across a rocky beach!• Total mileage: 5.6 miles, round trip• Elevation gain: 260 feet

Whether summer or winter, this is one of my favorite exploration destinations in Puget Sound! This gem of a hike is located on the south west side of Whidbey Island, just north of Fort Casey. We took the Mukilteo ferry then drove about 25 miles on the island to reach the trailhead.

The hike begins up to the top of a ridge overlooking the Straight of Juan de Fuca, the Olympic Peninsula, and Puget Sound. Then, the trail leads down to the water and you return to the trailhead along the beach.

This hike is perfect for young families with children who want to beach comb, for couples, or for solo hiking. The trail is busiest on weekends and holidays, so plan your adventure and ferry ride early in the day or during the week!
