Trail Run at Bull Run
Great spot for a run! Very accessible for those in the DC region.
A good starting point is the Henry Hill Visitor Center. If you want to avoid any crowds, start early. From the Henry Hill Visitor Center, you can't really go wrong (as far as direction is concerned) since most trails can be linked together to form a loop. I started on the First Manassas Trail (pictured) and it was phenomenal, s...
Hike and Explore Bull Run Battlefield
Located about 40 minutes from D.C. just off I-66 in Manassas, VA. Henry Hill is the starting point and headquarters that can lead you to multiple trails ranging from 1-5 miles depending on the route you choose here. Ample parking at HQ as well as clean restrooms. Tours are available here.
Rolling hills provide beautiful overviews of the countryside. It is an easy hike to get the whole family in...
Relax at Aldie Park
Small park with nice walking trails, picnic tables, and a waterfall that cascades down from a dam. Its a wonderful place to take the family or just go for a breath of fresh air. Its also right near the downtown area of Aldie, which has a bakery, juice/smoothie shop, and other great shops to stop in at. If you're driving through, stop for a bit!
Relax at Lake Thompson
Lake Thompson is a great spot for fishing, walking, or just exploring the area with your dog. I've never had a problem with parking, but you're unlikely to find yourself alone at the lake on a nice weekend day. Its a 10-acre lake, however, so you shouldn't have a problem carving out a little bit of your own space to fish and kick back. Keep an eye on the status of the lake, as the last time I ...

Hike to the Piedmont Overlook
In just a .61 mile trail, Piedmont Overlook has so much to offer in terms of views and although it is fairly steep, anyone can do it!
After arriving at Sky Meadows State Park start heading up to the white park office building, this is where the trail begins. To get to the trail head follow Boston Mills Road for about 400 ft until you see the post with the Piedmont Overlook arrow pointing you ...
