Family hike in late July, ages 8 to 52. Loop trial. Consistent climb first approx 3/4 mile. At the fork go right and follow back to road and then walk down road to trailhead. Varied terrain, wildflowers, aspens. First 2/3 in shade of the aspens.

I go few places without at least one of my kids - born 2016, 2008, 2007 and 2004. 2007 (Grace) and 2016 (Silas) joined me one summer morning in 2023. Perfect length for them, as Grace likes a hike but she's not in for a slog and isn't afraid to let you know. Silas is young enough he forgets what goes down must come up. So I try and measure accordingly. This is a perfect length for both. Nothing much to add to the original description of the trail other than the trailhead which has moved south from its previous spot and a nice parking area added. And of course we always end with a stop at the Kings River Country Store for ice cream.

Wife and I took kids out of school on the first 65 degree sunny February day to come here. One other person in the campground, no one on the trail. Started down middle to the point, then cut back left along the ridge. Circled around the throne and made the relatively easy climb up to the top of the throne on the southeast side of it. Then walked back along the west side of the ridge and climbed back to campground. I love winter hiking for the views. Hikes along top of and below the ridge are all worth it with spectacular views, a wet weather waterfall, cliffs, overhangs, and bouldering. As the description says there are lots of climbing routes, but even for an 8 year old there are plenty of spots to scramble around and over. 2.9 miles in total with not a boring spot on the entire trial.

June 23-24, 2022, Ozark National Forest. Great family campground on a cold Arkansas creek with a fishing hole and bluff to jump into water - 10' deep at the deepest. Campground small and easy walk to swimming area. Group campground in separate area just down camp with a second beautiful swimming hole. Also a small trout lake and short hike to beautiful waterfall. In rainy season falls must be spectacular. Hiking & MTB trails nearby, also Blanchard Springs Caverns when it opens back up - white nose disease in bats has it closed currently. Mountain View and Ozark Folk Center (Arkansas State Park) 15 miles away as well as White River for fishing. Campsite small with showers and flush toilets. $15/day. Busy in the summer with family reunions and lots of kids swimming. If you're looking for isolation not the place, but for family & kid time really nice.

Cannot beat this hike for a family, regardless of age.
