Join Ho Chi Minh City, commence cycling to My Tho (50km)

In the morning you will be collected from your hotel in Ho Chi Minh City. We drive out of the city to avoid cycling through the heavily congested streets of this thriving metropolis. Once safely out of the suburbs we jump on our bikes and start riding. Our first stop is to visit a local fish or shrimp farm before boarding a local ferry to cross the river. We continue our two wheeled journey to our next stop, a visit a colourful Cao Dai temple. The Cao Dai sect is unique to Vietnam and interestingly is a hybrid of the world’s main religions. Cycling enables us to stop along the way for photo opportunities or to explore areas not usually accessible if travelling by coach or rail. We continue cycling through a particularly picturesque part of the Delta known as Go Cong. From here we continue to the town of My Tho where we will stay for the night. Cycling distance approx 50kms

Ferry and cycling to Tra Vinh (40-60km)

Today we combine cycling with ferry rides to get to the fascinating destination of Tra Vinh. From My Tho we cycle the short distance to a ferry crossing, which takes us to Ben Tre Province. Once off the ferry we cycle along typical country roads before boarding another ferry followed by a further 25km in the saddle. After a third and final ferry journey we arrive at our destaination, Tra Vinh. Relax and enjoy the remainder of the day. Take time to explore this remarkable area which is home to over 300,000 ethnic Khmer who maintain their cultural integrity, including their practice of Theravada Buddhism. The pagodas in the area are all architecturally Khmer. Approx cycling distance: 40-60kms

Cycle to Vinh Long (30km), return by bus to Ho Chi Minh City, trip concludes

After breakfast we depart from Tra Vinh and cycle through the beautiful landscape of verdant rice paddies, lush fields, glistening waterways and fruit orchards. En-route we pass through several small towns before arriving at Vinh Long where we load our bikes on to the support vehicle for the return journey to Ho Chi Minh City. All good things must come to an end and our trip concludes on arrival in Ho Chi Minh City. Approx cycling distance 30kms

Additional Information

The Mekong Delta is the southernmost region of Vietnam. Often referred to as the rice bowl of the country it currently produces three crops of rice per year. The fertile Mekong Delta is also famous for its tropical fruits and flowers. The Delta area is the end of a 4500 km journey the Mekong River makes, travelling through six countries. The Mekong’s Vietnamese name is Cuu Long, meaning Nine Dragons, so called because of the nine branches of the river that flow into the sea. The delta region has 12 provinces and has been a place of thriving agriculture and industry since the 1800s when the Nguyen lords reclaimed the area from marshland, building a network of canals. A diverse range of people including Khmer, Chinese and Chams as well as Vietnamese today populates the area today. We explore the fertile Mekong Delta by bicycle and witness it’s wonders at a pace ideal for soaking up its many splendours and meeting the local peoples.
