Hiking and Happy Hour in Jasper National Park
Work up and appetite, then satisfy it.
It’s a fact. An ice cold drink and plate of food actually tastes better after an adventure. Lucky for anybody who’s exploring Jasper National Park this summer, there is no shortage of either in the park. Spend a night or two in the backcountry, get up early for a day hike, or explore one of the many beautiful lakes and waterfalls around Jasper, then get back into town in time to catch some local flavour at any of these fine establishments.

With panoramic views of the Jasper area, the hike to Bald Hills is a feast for the eyes. Get an early start to beat the heat and crowds then head on down to Tekarra Restaurant, Jasper’s cabin in the woods. With delicious appetizers like house smoked trout and regional products like Alberta Bison short ribs and a lively happy hour, it’s the perfect place to wind down and refuel.

Athabasca Falls is a famous stop on the Icefields Parkway for good reason. While it’s not the tallest waterfall in the park, it is the most powerful and arguably the most scenic. Folks here love it so much that Jasper Brewing Co. named a beer after it, the Athabasca Amber. Be sure to stop in for one of their local brews on tap and for some delicious eats like their cast iron nachos or soft pretzels.

A trip to Jasper wouldn’t be complete without a stop to Maligne Lake. It has to be one of the most picturesque locations in North America, if not the world. If you opt for the photography tour, you’ll be treated to a happy hour of wine and cheese on the ride back to the dock.

If not, (or if you’re not quite satisfied) be sure to check out the happy hour menu at Evil Dave’s Grill. With prices and creative cocktails like these, you’ll be tempted to try every drink on the menu. Go ahead, you’re on vacation.
