Description

Located inside of Ray Roberts Lake State Park, Isle du Bois is an 11-mile hiking and biking trail that makes up more than 20 miles of the park's overall trail system.  After a good workout, enjoy a swim in the lake or relax on the beach.

The drive to the park is worth the trip on its own, as it is surrounded by thousands of acres of horse and longhorn ranches.  The closest town, Pilot Point, boasts a historic downtown area with new breweries and a distillery.

As this trail area is inside of the state park, it is $7/person unless you have a current Texas State Park Pass.  On the tree-lined drive to the lake, there are multiple designated campsites and RV sites with water and bathrooms.  There is a system of 10 miles of paved trails for walkers, dogs and family bike rides.

As you near the lake, the trailhead can be found on the right with plenty of parking and trail maps.  There is a loop system of around 11 miles of off-road tree-covered mountain bike trails that include climbs, downhills, wildlife and beautiful remote views of the lake.  This trail is not suited for beginner riders.  There are many advanced to expert portions of the trail that can be bypassed if necessary.

Past the trail-head, there is parking for the beach area that sprawls along the 29,350 acre lake which is famous for boating and bass fishing.  This lake is a kayaker's paradise as there are dozens of waterways that all stem to the lake.  Warning, the beach area can be extremely crowded on holiday weekends, so if crowds and loud music aren't your scene, stick to the trails.

Check the DORBA (Dallas Off Road Bike Association) website for trail conditions, trail maps and closures.
