Shakerag Hollow, located in Sewanee, Tennessee, offers a 2.39-mile loop trail that is rated as moderate in difficulty. The trail is known for its diverse flora and fauna, with over 500 species of plants and a variety of wildlife. The trail begins with a steep descent into the hollow, followed by a gradual climb back up. The trail features a creek that hikers will cross several times via footbridges. Along the way, hikers will encounter a series of limestone bluffs and outcroppings. In the spring, the trail is adorned with wildflowers, including trillium and bloodroot. Hikers should wear sturdy shoes due to the rocky terrain and be prepared for a steep climb out of the hollow. The trail is best used from March until November. Dogs are allowed but must be kept on leash. The trailhead is located near the University of the South campus, with parking available.
