I did this hike on a Friday in April and luckily beat the typical weekend crowds. We had most of the trail and top to ourselves with an occasional trail wave! We were looking for a challenge with a big layoff and this did not disappoint! I’d call it moderate to difficult for avid hikers, and really difficult if you’re more of a novice. The hike is all uphill on way out (but I didn’t find it too taxing or steep) and ends at a beautiful rocky top, with spectacular views. Some in our party found downhill pretty tough on the knees and joints, but poles may have helped. I’d love to do it again and recommend it!!

We had a fairly overcast day in April, with a mix of some drizzle and some sun. The hike was beautiful and I would recommend! It’s mostly downhill the out trip to the river, then a gradual, climbs on your way back. Enjoyable and not too strenuous.

This was my first official hike since my move to Seattle a couple months ago. I read the reviews and saw pictures and was convinced this was the perfect first hike; and I was not disappointed. I went over Memorial Day weekend and knew crowds were going to be an issue. I arrived early and was able to beat some of crowds, but I also beat the sun. This meant, I had less crowded trails but didn’t get to see Lake Serene in all its glory as lots of morning fog had yet to burn off. But, despite some fog, the hike up was both challenging and rewarding the entire way up and down. If you decide to go, you will be met with a mostly uphill 2 hour (took me approx 2 hours, minimal stops, and steady pace) hike to lake Serene. The trail is well kept and obvious as to where you should go (little to no chance of taking a wrong turn). Trip is rocky in many places and requires lots of big steps up and navigating uneven terrain. Saw a few people struggling with the steep parts. It was one of the most beautiful hikes I’ve done, counting my all time favorite 3 day hike to Machu Picchu. The views, on a clear day, and as the sun burns off the fog are beautiful. Lush green, rock faces, and waterfalls, oh my!
