Be sure to make reservations at the restaraunt on the lake. There are cocktails on the dock bar (very cool) @ 5p and dinner at 6p. Absolutely great food and drinks Tons of trails and smaller lakes in the area as well. http://www.sardinelakeresort.com/lakeside_dining.html

Buckeye Hot Springs

This is just a short drive off of the 395 and a great little stop. The hot springs are pretty unique and tucked alongside a mountain river. The rocks that form the hot springs can be rearranged to make multiple pools with different temperatures. We had a 4Runner so no problems getting there, road is pretty well graded.
