Gorton Creek Falls Hike

Oregon Wyeth Campground Day Use Area

The Gorton Creek Falls hike provides an excellent challenge for those who are searching for a bit of adventure. The trailhead starts at the Wyeth Campground day use area, and continues straight at the intersection. The first 2/3rds of the trail are relatively easy to traverse (depsite being rough) and run along the beautiful Gorton Creek which has many small falls. The final climb provides a decent challenge, and should not be attempted by anyone who isn't agile and comfortable on their feet. After reaching the end of the defined trail, one has to climb over and around the many moss covered boulders surrounding the creek for about 100ft. Then there is a small herd path that runs along the remainder of the canyon to the falls. During the summer months when the water is running much lower, the hike is easier as one can walk directly up the creakbed, though its no less of a workout. It's strongly recommended to take a partner with you, just in case you need help, though it can be done solo. The hike is not very family friendly, and shouldn't be completed with kids under middle school age.

The major falls at the end of the hike drop 149ft down from the top of the canyon in two tiers (the top tier largely being hidden by the shape of the canyon) and land in a small basin below, before cascading down the canyon via two tributaries. In the middle of the basin there is a small rock that you can stand on which allows for a great photographical moment, but be prepaired to get wet!

Its advised to take a change of clothes (at least an extra pair of socks and shoes) for this very reason, as there is a good chance of getting wet at one point or another during the hike.

How to Get There

Awesome!

The joke is beautiful and climbing up and around the rocks is fairly easy as long as you concentrate on your footing. This hike is great because you're usually the only one on the trail. I only saw two other people. It is so rewarding once you get to the top and see the falls!

Totally Worth It!

When you've had enough of the crazies at all the major falls, go here. Definitely requires some climbing over rocks and logs to get to the falls but it is so so worth it. Can't wait to go back in the summer when is warm enough to take a dip.

Awesome Falls, Tough Trek

The falls was really cool, but sliding down the hill and getting covered in mud was not ideal. I recommend walking up the stream rather than going up the hill and then back down. Still an awesome adventure however!

A great scramble to reach the falls! Super fun. And worth it!

Climbing up the creek to the falls was a bit easier and shorter than I had expected. However I do agree with leaving the pets and children at home because you do have to climb a little bit. Which was definitely ok, because Gorton Creek exceeded my expectations.

A great challenge that provides an equal reward! This waterfall is fairly unpopulated due to the challenge to get there, which makes for an even better reward! I had the place to myself for my entire stay, roughly two hours!
