Distance: 2.2 miles roundtripElevation gain: 350 ftBeautiful waterfallBarely any other peopleOn the way to the Oregon coastGreat picnic spot
Directly west on US126 from Eugene, OR lies Florence. However, what many don't realize is that there is a hidden gem a little bit off the beaten path just outside of Mapleton, OR. Just before reaching the tiny downtown of Mapleton, look for a left turn onto Sweet Creek Rd. It comes up really fast, so be ready!
After passing some small houses, the road basically turns into a lone stretch of pavement through the forest. There are a bunch of trails that lead to the creek bed, rivers and waterfalls, but the one pictured is a bit further in than the main labeled trails.
Drive to the end of the pavement and beyond, and after crossing a small bridge look for a gravel parking area on the left. There is a sign that has a map on it. The waterfall is only about a mile in from the parking area, and it is truly breathtaking. There should be a historical sign that talks about the Beaver Creek wagon trail shortly down the path from the parking area.
It's obvious that few make their way back here, as the trail can be overgrown in the summers. The path, however, is still easy to follow. With barely any elevation change the entire length of the path, this is a great reward for not much effort. Bring a picnic lunch, or just come to sit and dip your feet in the water while basking in the sun.
