Volunteer with Friends of the Lower Olentangy Watershed: FLOW

FLOW (Friends of the Lower Olentangy Watershed) is a non-profit organization located in Columbus, Ohio that has a mission to keep the Olentangy River and its tributaries clean and safe for all to enjoy. They do this through public education, volunteer activities and coordination with local decision-makers.

FLOW was formed in 1997 and has been working on new ways to keep up with the environmental and social challenges of the 21st century. With easy access to the internet and social media they are using modern communication as a way to reach a larger audience. By doing so the goal is to instill a common regard for the resources we all depend on.

You can become involved in the organization by becoming a member and donating or by volunteering. 

Membership donations are as follows:

• Individual $25
• Family $40
• Supporting $55
• Business $175

Volunteer opportunities include:

• Help with database management
• Help with volunteer coordination
• Research key issues affecting the watershed 
• Conducting river clean ups
• Lead recreational activities
• Participate in stream monitoring 
• Plant trees

I recently volunteered with FLOW to plant 60 trees at the Anheuser Busch Factory. The organization did a great job of having signs to direct you to parking. They supplied everything needed to plant the trees and also had snacks and refreshments. Those who were there from the organization were very kind and helpful. I had a great time planting trees and plan to volunteer with them more in the future!
