The Baxter Creek Trail climbs 4000 feet over 6.2 miles to reach the peak of Mount Sterling nestled in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. This trail takes you over mountain rivers and through low and high altitude forests, the latter covered in dense moss.

At the top of the mountain, you will find a retired 60ft fire tower, which remains open to the public and boast 360 degree views of the Smoky Mountains surrounding you. Below you lies many options for campsites and if you're lucky, a touch of fog will whisper you asleep. Be sure to be up in the tower for sunrise though, because you're not going to want to miss that view.
