I've hiked this in the spring and snowshoed it in the winter. I was hailed on in the spring and it's a tougher hike in the winter with many skinning up on skis and split boards. The views are gorgeous on the way up to the lake. The lake is a beautiful payoff at the end.

This is one of the easiest and most heavily trafficked hikes in Big Cottonwood. If you're looking for an easy hike with little vertical than this is a good choice. If you're looking for quiet and solitude this is not the place for you. Don't let the easy access and heavy traffic make you let your guard down. Two have died here since 2012. A woman fell 100 feet and a man was hit by a falling boulder. Have fun but be careful. You can often see moose in the area. This weekend while there I saw a bull moose on the trail just before the falls and a cow near the creek south of the parking lot. The best time to see moose is at dusk.

Make sure to bring enough water as there is nowhere to replenish your water on this hike. It's a very tough hike even though there is little elevation change. There is no path so make sure you have a GPS and are comfortable navigating. We only saw one other person so if you get lost you're on your own. Don't go in the slot canyons or you'll be stuck and end up backtracking quite a way. A great hike for those adventurous enough to try it.

A nice hike with a gorgeous waterfall at the end. In the spring the water will be flowing higher from snowmelt and you'll get your feet wet to see the waterfall. I climbed up the cliffs at the waterfall for a great view of the Salt Lake. I wouldn't recommend that for most though.

I've hiked this in every season and it's one of my favorites. Make sure to bring spikes or snow shoes in the winter, especially if you plan on heading all the way to the lake. Most do not make it that far and only go to Dog Lake. Mountain bikers can be seen in warmer months coming down off the Wasatch Crest Trail.

I live nearby and ride BCC a lot but I've only done the full ride to Brighton once. It's quite the climb but it's also beautiful. I've seen moose, especially at Silver Lake, along with other wildlife up the canyon. It's definitely worth the ride and not for beginners.
