Cat & Thomas Mountains
There are a few ways to approach these two peaks. We chose to do a traverse using two vehicles.
Starting at Edgecomb Pond Rd you will park along the road. There will be a sign and yellow discs directing you to the start of the trail. The first 0.4 miles is following a dirt road. You will then reach a junction in which you will turn left following the red trail 1.4 miles to the summit of Ca...
The Pinnacle via Red Trail
The Pinnacle via Red Trail is a great, easy hike with views of Lake George, near Bolton Landing, NY. There is a small parking lot at the trailhead with overflow cars parking alongside the street.
This hike is along an out-and-back trail that is a little over 2 miles total and full of beautiful views!
Dogs are permitted on a leash.
Gore Mountain via Schaefer Trail
You will start this hike following the blue blazed Schaefer trail. Though the sign shows 5.8 miles to the summit it is actually only 5.0 miles. Much of the way you follow Roaring Brook which has many waterfalls along the way. Just after the North Creek Reservoir you will get your first glance at the summit. You will pass through an open area shaped like an amphitheater, known as Dave's Cirque....

Due to the rockiness, when you're thinking about heading out for this hike, be sure to grab a sturdy pair of hiking boots or at least your sturdiest athletic shoes; it's a good idea to have stable footwear with good ankle support.
Because t...
Shelving Rock Mountain
The trailhead for Shelving Rock Mountain has enough room for about five cars but additional parking can be found on the road leading to it. Be sure to sign the log book and begin the hike by passing around the "stop" car barrier.
The trail starts off following a small stream (on your right) but you will soon veer off to the left at the first junction. The signs are easy to follow. After a litt...
