Hike the Apshawa Preserve

Apshawa Preserve

Distance: 5.4 miles. Elevation gain: N/ASome rock-hoping over streams. Some really cool waterfalls and a possible view of NYCCoordinates: N41 01.516 W74 22.430.

This is a pretty straightforward loop-hike that has you crossing a few bridges, a stream and getting some incredible views if you are up for it. Ironically you are close to some homes so you will potentially see some people in their backyards. You'll also get used to seeing manmade structures intersecting with nature with some water tanks and metal bridges next to streams and rock-hops.

Fun

Fun and dog friendly. Some of the paths get a by narrow and it's easy to slip when walking down some of the hills in rougher weather but it's always a fun hike.

Nature Walk

Great hike for beginners! Very peaceful park with waterfalls, ruins, a lake and dam. There's also signage throughout the park with facts about the native flora and fauna. Little work with lots of reward!

Great For Beginners

Very easy place to start hiking with little experience. There are a few options to make the trail longer.

The Four Birds Trail is about 19 miles long and is a great thru hike or can be done in sections as out and back hikes or part of loop hikes with other trails.

Hike the Timberbrook Pond - Riley's Rise Loop

The trailhead parking is at the end of Timberbrook Road, before the road enters Camp Winnebago (Boy Scouts). I hiked this in a clockwise directions starting on the Timberbrook Trail (yellow markers).
