Standard Peak, accessible from McGinnis Creek Road in Flathead County, Montana, offers a challenging yet rewarding hiking trail. The trail spans approximately 5.65 miles, with an elevation gain of 2,211 feet, making it a strenuous hike suitable for experienced hikers. The trail features a variety of natural landmarks, including a clear, flowing creek and a large, rocky outcrop known as the "Giant's Chair." The trail also passes through a dense forest of pine and fir trees, providing ample shade for hikers. At the summit of Standard Peak, hikers are rewarded with panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. On clear days, it's possible to see as far as Glacier National Park. Hikers are advised to bring plenty of water and snacks, as there are no facilities along the trail. In terms of wildlife, hikers may spot deer, elk, and various bird species. The trail is open year-round, but the best time to hike is from June to October, when the weather is most favorable.
