Gardiner is the epitome of down home western atmosphere.
Roosevelt Arch is the original and northern entrance to Yellowstone NP. It is a Gardiner icon. Built in 1903 so many people stop to visit it they have now built a bypass. Now you can stop and admire it without blocking traffic.
However, there is a lot more to Gardiner. A couple miles north, you can see the Devils Slide from hwy. 89. There is the Yellowstone river itself roaring through the middle of town. Boiling River, the only hot springs in the park where you can legally soak. The famous steaming terraces of Mammoth Hot Springs are just 5 miles south in the Park.
Unlike the glitter and pomp in jet setting Jackson Hole to the south Gardiner has authentic western atmosphere and friendly inhabitants. Laid back and relaxed.
Enjoy.

Visit Gardiner MT the northern entrance to Yellowstone NP Reviews
I was able to visit this town when I was younger, and I remember being thrilled with how friendly everyone was. There are elk EVERYWHERE, I was amazed. Wonderful photo ops, great food. Highly recommend a stop in this town on your way into (or out of) Yellowstone!
