Laketown Park is a hidden gem with sand dunes and an uncrowded beach. Perfect for panoramic views and beach walks on Lake Michigan.

Laketown Park is located between Saugatuck and Holland Michigan. The parking lot is at the end of 142nd Ave, and is directly next to the stairs that take you up and over the dunes to the beach. There are no official restrooms here, but there is a small pit toilet.

It takes about 5-15 minutes to climb the stairs to the top of the dune (depending on your fitness level) where there is a stunning view of Lake Michigan. This is a great spot to snap pictures and take in a sunset.

You can also continue down the stairs, which leads to the beach at the bottom of the dune. Here you can swim (no lifeguard on duty), sit on the public beach, or walk the coastline.

Don't let the stairs scare you. It is only a short climb and the view is worth it.

No fees or parking permits required.

Watch a Sunset at Laketown Park Reviews

I loved the Lake Michigan sunsets when I lived in Holland. I spent many evenings out photographing sunsets or storms rolling in. I highly recommend enjoying the colorful display, whether you come to this park or any of the others along the coast!

The scenery is beautiful. However the upkeep isn't the best. I brought my children and although they had a blast, it was difficult to navigate the trail, or stairway, everything is covered in and and including the fences... Guess that's a dune for you! Otherwise, beautiful fall sunset! We'd come again.

We decided to do this as our first adventure found from The Outbound and it was a fantastic decision. This was one of the prettiest natural beaches I've ever visited. We got there at about 9:15 for a 9:22 sunset and had just enough time to climb to the top of the dune to see the beauty over the lake. The view from the top of the dune is amazing, and you feel like you are miles from civilization! Be warned, there are a lot of steps, but as others said; it is totally worth it!

I'm originally from Michigan, and I thought I had found all the best places to watch the sunset. Wrong. I saw the tiny park on the map and decided to check it out. From the top of the giant sand dune you get incredible views and the sunset blew my mind. One of my new favorite spots in the state.

When I lived out on that side of town it was the perfect little spot for a sunbathing or a dip or just to see the beach/sunset. It's less crowded during the week. Quite a hike up the stairs if you head all the way down but also a great workout for your legs on the way back up!

Living in Northwest Indiana there are many opportunities to enjoy the lake. I decided to drive into Michigan one day and eventually stumbled across this place. This little park is perfectly situated for some beautiful sunsets. While the park is small and is located next to private beaches the area is perfect for relaxation on the dunes or near the water. Highly recommend visiting this spot
