What goes up, easily, must come down, hard.
Beautiful trail to the top of San Jacinto from the Marion trailhead. Camp at Fern Basin or Marion (easier to do in the Fall timeframe; otherwise book early). Hike is a steady UP for about 5.2ish miles, with a bit of steeper gain towards the top and a scramble to the end (you'll feel like you are off the path, but you aren't). Check out the emergency shelter at the top too. Great views of the mountains and the desert. Now, going down is another story. Get distracted. The pounding your knees, hip flexors and feet will take will be a bit brutal. But, its still a great hike overall. Check out the Animal Sanctuary, Living Free, afterwards - open til 4.
