Hike the Cumberland River to Eagle Falls

Williamsburg, Kentucky

Description

Added by Tyler Kirby

Moderate 1.7 mile loop

The trail has a good amount of up and down. It's a great way to spend a day if you are in the southeastern part of Kentucky. It's beautiful year-round and drains well with rain. Eagle falls can be a little uneventful if the water isn't flowing. However, this trail in my opinion, gives a much better view of the Niagara of the South (Cumberland Falls) because being across the river, in front of the falls, you can view it as a whole. I have a theory that it would be a great view for the one and only Moonbow at Cumberland falls too. Not only does this trail have views of two waterfalls, but it also has an overlook of the gorge containing the Cumberland River, which in the fall with all the leaves changing colors, is absolutely gorgeous. This trail is just awesome with its three (at least) views.

The trailhead is on Hwy. 90 on the right once you cross the bridge over the Cumberland River if you are coming from Corbin. If you are coming from Sterns, it will be on your left right before the county line.
