Nestled just outside Kuna, Idaho, the Kuna Caves offer an exciting underground exploration opportunity for adventure seekers and photographers alike. This natural lava tube system provides visitors with a unique geological experience within easy reach of Boise.
Location & Accessibility
The Kuna Caves are situated on public Bureau of Land Management (BLM) land approximately 3 miles south of Kuna, Idaho. To reach this hidden gem:
- Turn onto Kuna Cave Road from Highway 69/Meridian Road
- Take a right on Black Cat Road
- Turn left onto an unmarked dirt road (approximately 0.5 miles before W. Dickman Road)
- Pass through the cattle gate that marks the entrance to public BLM land
- Follow the dirt path for approximately 100 feet until you reach the cave entrance
Cave Features & Experience
Access to this subterranean wonder is via a 50-foot descent down a secured steel ladder. The cave maintains a constant, comfortable temperature of approximately 56°F (13°C) year-round, making it an ideal destination during both hot summers and cold winters.
The main passageway extends approximately a quarter mile underground, featuring fascinating lava formations created thousands of years ago during volcanic activity. The cave's unique geological features provide excellent photography opportunities, especially with proper lighting equipment.

Doesn't even look like it exists until you get about 50 feet from it

Really cool place to see, instructions were right on and it pulls up on google maps. The reason why this gets a 4 star is because inside the cave is really dirty and vandalized. Lots of graffiti and some garbage
